Who is Olivier?

A career devoted to education, public affairs and youth.

Portrait of Olivier Bertin-Mahieux

I'm as much at home in the field as I am with ideas. As a father of two, I know what it means to build for the future — not in theory, but through the everyday choices that shape a family and a community.

I hold a bachelor's degree in commerce from McGill University and a master's in political science from the Université de Montréal. Over more than twenty-five years, my career has been devoted to the causes that shape Quebec's social fabric: education, the French language, the environment, economic development, and international cooperation.

For four and a half years, I led the Paul Gérin-Lajoie Foundation, whose mission is to improve people's lives through quality education at every stage of life — a cause I believe in deeply. Convinced the time had come to serve in a different way, I stepped down to run in Soulanges.

My path has been as varied as it is grounded: government relations at VIA Rail Canada on mobility and environmental issues, defending Quebec's interests abroad at the Ministère des Relations internationales et de la Francophonie, co-founding a tech recruitment start-up, and fieldwork in West Africa alongside local farmers.

Drawing on this breadth of experience, and on the conviction that education and dialogue are the foundations of a strong society, I'm stepping forward today as a candidate for Soulanges.
